PPM offers two standard high power DC/DC converters that offer outstanding efficiency and flexibility in a compact and lightweight unit. With two high power versions available, 1500W and 4.5kW, offering 0-60V and up to 75A capacity, they provide a unique power electronics building block that can be programmed to perform many tasks such as:
Battery management
Super capacitor voltage regulation
Fuel cell voltage regulation
Energy harvesting
MPPT for wind and solar
DC motor control

An example discharge curve of a supercapacitor bank is shown below. A 300W load is being supplied with a stable voltage, via the UDIO output. As the supercapacitor bank discharges, and the voltage decreases, the internal ratio of the UDIO is increased to maintain a stable output. To maintain the 300W required from the supercapacitor bank, the current drawn increases as the voltage drops. When the current demand exceeds 25A, the load can no longer be maintained at 300W. In this example, there is only 6% of the original energy left in the capacitor bank at this point. To achieve this the converter operates as a buck or boost converter depending on the voltage required at the load and the voltage available in the capacitor bank.
Thanks to the bi-directional nature of the UDIO the same device can manage the charging of a capacitor bank.
An example charge curve of the same capacitor bank is shown below. In this example, the "system" is able to supply up to 1500W of power back into the capacitor bank. The UDIO implements a constant current charge profile until the maximum capacitor voltage has been met. The UDIO can either respond to an external trigger or follow a set of rules to control the charge/discharge behaviour.
